On June 5, 2021 UNDERGROUND (REVISITED) by Marco Pesaresi opens in Savignano sul Rubicone, the reportage carried out by the Rimini photographer Marco Pesaresi (1964-2001) in the subways of ten cities: Berlin, New York, London, Calcutta, Mexico City, Moscow, Madrid , Tokyo, Paris and Milan, almost 20 years after its first exhibition. The exhibition, which at the time was curated by the Contrasto Agency and exhibited in 2002 at the Milan Triennale and at the Palazzo del Podestà in Rimini, opens this year the celebrations for the thirtieth anniversary of the SI FEST photography festival. The exhibition will remain visible until August 8, 2021 at the reclamation consortium, in via Garibaldi 45 in Savignano sul Rubicone (Forlì-Cesena). The exhibition, curated by Denis Curti and Mario Beltrambini, consists of 84 original photographs by Marco Pesaresi. Alongside these, a documentary journey through the history of Underground: the negatives, the travel diary – a lined notebook in which Marco wrote down thoughts and considerations in the most intense phase of the journey that lasted over two years – a selection of the over 300 photographs taken from the complete reportages, the Italian and foreign magazines that published some images, the catalog – Italian version and English version, with a preface by Francis Ford Coppola.
“It is difficult to forget those eyes that knew how to look beyond – says Denis Curti, artistic director of SI FEST -. And still today, while I look at the photographs of Marco Pesaresi, I hear the noise of those eyelashes that open and close continuously. Each beat corresponded to an inner snap. It was his way of stocking up on memories and, as he often said, of feeling the ‘photograph on him’ with his extraordinary ability to hold his breath and set his feelings free. Marco was the harmonious result of imperfection. His lateral thoughts and his silences knew how to fill the hearts of those around him. His gaze has taken us all over the world, telling us stories of cultures, cities, individuals and human quantity ”.
The entire Marco Pesaresi archive has just been donated to the city of Savignano sul Rubicone by Marco’s heirs, the complete collection consists of over 140,000 documents including negatives, photographs, proofs, prints and slides that the Municipality undertakes to preserve, enhance, promote and inventory, archive and digitize, allowing consultation on Opac.
